Ever surprised at the feelings that come up during a conversation with someone seemingly out of the blue? Most of us have had this experience and found ourselves struggling to understand what just happened.
We all have feelings. Feelings come from our present moment, past experiences, and future concerns. In response to the question above, many clients will answer "I feel that....." and are surprised to learn that thoughts and feelings aren't the same. Thoughts typically lead to feelings so to answer the question with a feeling, try digging deeper. Check on what's happening in your body in the moment as bodies hold those emotions in every cell.
Feeling words include happy, sad, mad, frustrated, excited and many, many more, but most of us have a small feelings vocabulary. We simply are seldom taught how to speak "feelings." Maybe you aren't just sad; maybe you're feeling disappointed or hurt or ignored. All feelings are valid, even if others don't understand. Feelings just are.
